Drawing from conversations with BMW hydrogen engineers, artist Alvaro Barrington embarked on an exploration of innovative technologies and cultural icons – particularly those who have continually reinvented themselves, including Richard Hamilton, Henri Matisse, David Hockney, and Tina Turner. Across media and disciplines, each of them represents a powerful symbol of transformation and reinvention.

To celebrate 50 years of #BMWArtCars, former Art Car juror hansulrichobrist invited alvarobarrington to reimagine the BMW Hydrogen VIP Fleet for #ArtBasel in Basel 2025. In this project he draws from the visual language of collage to examine the dynamic relationship of art, nature, sustainability and technology – revealing how innovation influences not only how we move but how we live, feel, and imagine the world around us.
