With 7;45 left in the first quarter of its state Class D regional final girls lacrosse game against Cold Spring Harbor, Maddie Becerra scored off an 8-meter free shot to put Pleasantville up 3-2.

There was zero indication at that point that Pleasantville wouldn't score again until 3:07 was left in the third quarter, and that a game that started with such promise would end as a blowout.

But that's how Pleasantville's season concluded at rainy Lakeland High Saturday, June 7, as Cold Spring Harbor, the defending state Class D champion, earned a return trip to the state semifinals.

Maggie Spehr had four goals and three assists and Ruby Spielberger had four goals and one assist to lead the Seahawks.

Ryan Reynolds had three goals and an assist, Olivia Mulada two goals and two assists, Lyla Long two goals and one assist, Sienna Koke a pair of goals, Kelly Callaghan a goal and a big five assists, Riley Miller a goal and an assist and Ainsley Dirks and Bridget Willcocks also scored.

Maya Soskin, who'll play next year for the University of Florida, had seven saves.

For Pleasantville, Faith Brown had two goals and Juliana Karaqi, Becerra and Ella Collins had solo tallies. Becerra, who left the game with an injury, also had an assist.

Goalies Ava Berkowitz and Kaylee Sullivan both had two stops for the Panthers.
