The chase left Bronxville winded.

A first-half run gave Cold Spring Harbor all the wiggle room it needed. The back-to-back-to-back state champions took another step toward extending that run with a win over the Broncos in a NYSPHSAA Class D regional final Saturday, June 7, at Yorktown High School.

“The first thing I told these guys at the beginning of the season was to dream big,” first-year Bronxville head coach Patrick Henderson said. “They really embraced that. Our future is bright and we’re excited about that, but nothing is guaranteed so this is disappointing. It would’ve been nice to take advantage, but that was a really good team.”

Winning face-offs was a challenge for the Broncos, who also ran into a stubborn goalie when they did have an opportunity to score. Thomas Freeman knotted the score with 4:07 to go in the first quarter, but the Seahawks responded with a 6-0 run.

Bronxville’s defense was forced to cover for long stretches and was gassed by halftime.

“I don’t know if red is the right word to describe the color of their faces,” Henderson said. “We had a tough time with face-offs and knew it was going to be difficult going in, so we had a couple of tricks to kind of mitigate their advantage, but none of them really worked.
