The Miners win and sweep! ⛏️

Sussex County routed the ottawa_titans, 11-3, at Ottawa Stadium in the Sunday matinee. The Miners recorded another road series sweep, their fifth consecutive win, and their fourth consecutive game with double-digit hits. Sussex County remains on top of the frontier_league’s Atlantic Conference East Division with a 20-7 record.

Up 3-2 in the seventh, Ottawa became unraveled. Will Zimmerman (wzimmerman13) left the game after he was struck in the face by a pitch and was replaced by Matt Stil (mattstil22). Hunter D’Amato (hunter_damato) reached base on a bunt and moved Stil into scoring position. Gabriel Maciel (g_h_maciel01) laid down a sacrifice bunt and moved the runners to second and third. Jordan Smith (jsmith4_) was intentionally walked to load the bases. Ottawa walked in the tying run, and Sussex County took the lead, 4-2, on Gionti Turner’s two-RBI single.

Keenan O’Brien’s (keenan_o9) two-RBI single increased the Miners’ lead to 7-3 in the top of the ninth. Turner drove in O’Brien to tack on another run. Mahki Backstrom (cmcthagreat), who entered the game for the injured Zimmerman, hit a mammoth three-run home run over the center field wall with an exit velocity of 112 MPH, stretching the lead to the final score of 11-3.

Starting pitcher Kellen Brothers (kjbro05) tossed five solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks, striking out three. Billy Parsons (4-0; billypars0ns) earned the win, allowing no earned runs and four hits with a walk and three strikeouts in his two innings of relief.
