#HabitatUncoveR3D with National Geographic Explorer Sugandhi Gadadhar (sugandhigadadhar) and Producer/DoP Rana Belur (ranabelur)

For nearly five years, Sugandhi and the team followed a single family of smooth-coated otters along the Cauvery River in southern India—one of the most elusive species in a landscape shaped by fishing, farming, and pilgrimage. Gaining the trust of these shy animals was a slow, patient process, made even harder by the impossible task of filming across the flowing river.

When the RED V-RAPTOR S35 joined the project, it gave them a new edge: allowing for intimate close-ups in 8K while keeping a respectful distance. Paired with the Canon CN20, the camera helped them work around tricky lighting, unpredictable behavior, and the heavy human pressures facing the otters every day.

Their film ‘My Otter Diary’—produced by Aranya Parva Creations and oxfordscientificfilms, distributed by all3media_int, and seed-funded by insidenatgeo—is not just a story about one otter family, but a wider call to protect India’s wild rivers and all who depend on them.
