Today, the Farwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. joins the nation in commemorating Juneteenth — Freedom Day.

On June 19, 1865, freedom was finally announced to the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas — over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day symbolizes the long and ongoing journey toward liberation, equity, and justice for Black people in America.

As we reflect, we honor the sacrifices of our ancestors, celebrate Black excellence and resilience, and recommit ourselves to the work of justice and liberation that remains. ✊🏾
