Class of 2025 graduate Helen Rogers plans to attend Texas State University this fall, to major in health science. Rogers was unsure about Texas State at first, but after touring the campus, she became convinced it was right for her.

“Once I toured the campus, I fell in love with it,” Rogers said. “Texas State’s campus is beautiful, and exactly what I imagined college to look like.”

Rogers plans to major in health sciences and then attend medical school to become either a physical therapist or an occupational therapist. Volunteering with Camp Summit, a camp specifically for people with disabilities, played a big role in this decision for Rogers, as she discovered a passion for helping others.

“Volunteering for this camp has opened my eyes to how rewarding it is to give back and improve people’s quality of life, which is what physical therapy is all about,” Rogers said.

She feels ready for the sense of freedom college brings, though she thinks it will be scary living on her own in a few months. During her time at McCallum, Rogers played on the varsity volleyball team, served as an Art Society officer, a Key Club member, and a National Honor Society member. Rogers would like to thank McCallum for teaching her how to communicate with all kinds of people and open up to different perspectives. 

“Doing clubs, sports and group projects helped me be more confident in speaking up and handling situations that aren’t always easy,” Rogers said.

When asked who an impactful teacher was in Rogers high school experience, she answered Mr. Cauthern, due to his supportive spirit and help.

“Mr. Cauthern has always been a great teacher to talk to about literally anything, and his room is always a safe space for me,” Rogers said.
