Class of 2025 graduate Piper De Pujadas will attend the University of New Hampshire in Durham this fall and major in Elementary Education. De Pujadas visited Durham earlier this year in January and really enjoyed the campus and the small town.

“The campus was small, but it had a big campus life and feel to it, and that’s what I was really looking for in my college,” she said. “Durham was really nice because it was just basically a college town, it was a five-minute walk from the main campus of the college, and there were a lot of cute shops.”

De Pujadas has known that she wanted to be a teacher for a while. Her experience working with kids since she was a child herself inspired her to pursue a career in education.

“When I lived in Houston, I went to this Montessori school, and so it was three grade levels in one class, and I was just always helping out with the other kids younger than me,” she said. “I also did two summers working as a camp counselor.”

She said that being further away from family will be the hardest part about this change.

“I’ve never lived more than a three-hour drive from any of my close relatives, so being almost 2,000 miles away will definitely be an adjustment,” she said. “But there’s always FaceTime, phone calls, and holiday breaks to look forward to, which makes the distance feel a little more manageable.”

Although she is going to miss her family, De Pujadas said that she is looking forward to meeting new people and experiencing the climate of New Hampshire.

“I’m really looking forward to being up in the Northeast, everything is so close together, and my school even has a train that takes me to and from Boston whenever I want,” she said. “I’m especially excited about meeting new people and making new friends. It’s such a great chance to branch out and connect with people I never would have met otherwise. “
