Dead Pony, Download Festival 2025

REVIEW: We might be at Donington Park right now, but Dead Pony are making it feel like we’re standing in the centre of the Barrowland Ballroom. There’s a real sense of Scottish pride radiating throughout the Avalanche Stage, and with good reason, because the quartet are flying the flag in some style. They are the perfect band for an event like this, with a discography that offers something for absolutely everyone, no matter what gets your feet moving. From the pummelling nu-metal of ‘BOOM’ to the slick grunge atmospherics of ‘Freak like me’, it is a masterclass in adaptation and exploration, a showcase of their full kaleidoscopic arsenal in full effect. Though it’s with the utter carnage of ‘Everything Burns’ that they reach full throttle, with bodies flying from all angles and heads well and truly banging. It’s one hell of a party, one that demonstrates in screaming colour why, with Dead Pony as hosts, British rock is in the safest of hands. Here we fucking go, indeed.
