In September last year, we welcomed six new floofs to the force - each working alongside their police parent as part of the North West Metro Region Peer Support Dog Program. ⁣
⁣
The program was established to support early mental health intervention, encourage open conversation, and help break down the stigma around mental health. ⁣
⁣
Over the past several months, our pawsome team have: ⁣
🐕‍🦺 completed 93 dedicated peer dog shifts ⁣
🐕‍🦺 conducted 193 workplace visits ⁣
🐕‍🦺 supported over 2,600 employees ⁣
🐕‍🦺 provided 304 one-on-one welfare check-ins ⁣
🐕‍🦺 made 39 referrals to mental health services and supports. ⁣
⁣
From critical incident debriefs to station visits after traumatic events like road fatalities and homicides, our peer support officers - and their furry friends - are making a real difference. ⁣
⁣
Not only do they bring a moment of relief to our frontline members, they help create a safe, supportive space to open up after a tough day on the job. One of our Sergeants even painted a portrait of Jax! It's now proudly displayed at Sunshine Police Station. ⁣
