The Ankeny firefighters’ union’s collaborative fundraising effort with a local brewery to protect the health of their own and ultimately serve the wider community will soon be on store shelves and on tap across Iowa. 

The Ankeny Professional Firefighters Local 4814 union has partnered with firetruckerbrewery in Ankeny to create Union Kolsch Ale, sales of which union president Nick DeVries said will help Ankeny firefighters take care of expenses not covered by insurance when they or their family members are injured or fall ill.

But DeVries said the ultimate goal is to find ways to give back to the community that supports them.
