🏆 MEET THE 2025 U SPORTS ATHLETES OF THE YEAR NOMINEES AND WINNERS

🏀 Gage Grassick, Saskatchewan

Can you tell us about this year’s successes with your team?

The success we had this year was built off the hard work and dedication of our team and my teammates. Every single practice, every single game, it was like a national championship game. So I think that’s what definitely set us apart, especially this year, was just being so competitive and just really wanting to push each other to the best of our abilities.

What was it like to see your team win gold?

To be honest, sometimes I can’t even really put it into words, because as an athlete you training for hours and hours every single day to get to that gold medal game and to win it was so exciting. You get to reflect on just how much work you’ve put in throughout the years. So definitely was just that big breath of fresh air, realizing that all the work you’ve put in has finally paid off.

What advice do you have for the next generation who wants to do what you do?

Just be able to live in the moment and not think too much ahead. I know it’s so stressful, especially in basketball, you are always prepping. Just taking a moment to realize, I get to play a game that I love. You get to devote your life to this sport and play it with 12 of your best friends or however many are on your team. People don’t remember you because of how great you were as a basketball player, but they remember how you treat them, so be the best teammate you can and figure out exactly what your teammates need from you, so you can have a really inspiring year.
