In the midst of a historic moment for women’s sports, the NWSL and WNBA players' associations have united to address a crisis unfolding off the field. ⁣⁣

On Thursday, the two unions released a powerful joint statement in response to a wave of immigration raids across the U.S., expressing solidarity with families “facing fear, hardship, and uncertainty tied to immigration.”⁣⁣
•⁣⁣
The statement comes as President Donald Trump’s administration ramps up efforts to carry out mass deportations, deploying ICE officers to detain individuals in major cities, including Los Angeles, where tensions have escalated and protests have erupted. ⁣⁣
•⁣⁣
On June 7, Trump also authorized 2,000 National Guard troops to be deployed to the city, a move widely condemned by California officials.⁣⁣
•⁣⁣
“What’s happening in L.A. is clearly an immigration issue, but it goes even beyond that,” said NWSLPA executive director Meghann Burke. “It’s about this administration’s willingness to bring military force to enforce their policies.”⁣⁣

Burke also pointed to the recent arrest and injury of SEIU California President David Huerta as a flashpoint in a growing pattern of government overreach. ⁣⁣
