Michigan’s Savannah Sutherland is the new Women’s 400m Hurdles National Champion, breaking the collegiate record with a time of 52.46 seconds — surpassing the mark set by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. 🏆⁣

McLaughlin-Levrone had set the previous record as a freshman at Kentucky with a time of 52.75. 🏃‍♀️⁣

Sutherland, who has long admired McLaughlin-Levrone –  the world record holder – met her for the first time at the Paris Olympic Games, where they raced in the final. Representing her native Canada, Sutherland finished seventh. 🔥⁣

The 21-year-old hurdler from Borden, Saskatchewan, continues to shine in her final NCAA season. This performance makes her the ninth-fastest woman in history in the 400m hurdles. She also shattered her own Canadian record and tied Femke Bol of the Netherlands for the second-fastest time in the world this year. 🤩⁣

"The hardest part was probably getting over my fear and just running it," Sutherland said. "I knew I had something in me, so I had to just let it go." 💪⁣
