🥈 for frigomarco_ on baloisebelgiumtour stage 4 👏

Frigo was on the attack all day on the punchy circuit course, which featured almost 3000m of elevation.

“Today was the classic stage of the race,” explained Marco. “I know the parcours well, and after the TT yesterday we knew this stage was important for the GC. After the TT and my time gap, I knew I could play for the breakaway today because I was a bit further down on GC compared to other guys. From the start I rode aggressively and I was covering the moves. I was basically in every good move, and then when a move went with 75 kilometers to go I was there in this group of 20. I was always trying to stay in the front, and then four of us went clear and we tried to go to the line.”

Frigo put it all on the line in the leading quartet, digging deep to successfully keep the chase group at bay.

“With 10 kilometers to go, it looked like we might get caught, so I tried to go solo,” Frigo added. “I knew if the second group caught us my race was done. I did a good attack but it came back. I did well on the last steep climb to the finish, actually. It’s a short climb and normally I don’t do well on these climbs. I think it was a good effort and I’m happy to get second. Thanks to the team today, they did a good job helping.”

Frigo would go on to finish second behind the day’s winner Jenno Berckmoes (Lotto) and his efforts today see him move up to fifth on the General Classification, 11 seconds behind new race leader Filippo Baroncini (UAE Team Emirates - XRG) with one stage remaining. Teammate pierandre.cote finished ninth on the stage and sits ninth overall.

“I’m fifth in GC going into tomorrow’s stage, which is completely flat,” added Frigo. “There is a bonus sprint that we need to take care of because the gaps are so close.”
