A full-circle moment: Decades after dedicating his life to empowering students in West Jackson, Dr. John M. Perkins was presented with an honorary doctorate from JSU in a special family ceremony at home. 

The scholarship in his name has already helped six students. “Learning Dr. Perkins’ story inspired me to keep going and reach back to help others,” said Angel Williams, a sophomore majoring in therapeutic recreation.
