Meet Will Sears, '25—a mechanical and material engineering double-major and mathematics minor from Baltimore, MD.

"I grew up in Baltimore playing lacrosse and watching the Battle of Charles Street vs. Johns Hopkins. I had the opportunity to play at Ridley for the regional championships—which my team won—and then go on a campus tour after the tournament. I fell in love with Loyola way back then. I didn't know if I would go to Loyola, but I kept telling myself, 'Dude, don't forget, don't forget.'"

Will made it to Loyola and jumped into every opportunity— LoyolaMDSGA, LoyolaMDCCSJ, Loyola_Intramurals, and serving as vice president of LoyolaMD_BakingClub... to name a few. "Loyola challenged me to delve into some hard projects and it pulled me out of my shell. It's impossible to find yourself alone on campus, and I mean that in the best way possible."

Will had a unique engineering internship—right on the Evergreen campus. After completing research on material characterization data optimization funded by the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, the company's vice president came to see his presentation and offered Will the opportunity to intern at Loyola's under-construction Donnelly Science Center.

"I knew I wanted to be an engineer in third grade when Iron Man came out. I saw Tony Stark hammering metal together, and I was like, that's what I am going to do. When I explained my childhood dream to my engineering advisor, Dr. Robert Bailey, he worked with me to get to the place I am today and push me forward. Here I am, 15 years later, doing exactly what I wanted to do back then."

Will is now working as a Project Engineer at J.S. Held, working on the vehicle accident reconstruction team—making his dreams come true as a real-life Iron Man.
