🌈 Marsha P. Johnson was a transgender activist and drag performer who became a legendary figure in the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights.

❤️ Johnson is often recognized helping spark the modern gay rights movement through her fearless activism, vibrant spirit, pivotal role in the Stonewall Riots, and her organization with Sylvia Rivera, Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR).

💐 Known for her colorful flower crowns, Johnson was a fixture in New York's Greenwich Village. From 1972 through the 1990s, she performed with the international drag troupe Hot Peaches, bringing her magnetic presence to stages from New York to London. She also performed with The Angels of Light and was immortalized by Andy Warhol in his Ladies and Gentlemen photography series. As part of the AIDS activism movement, she also appeared in Hot Peaches production The Heat in 1990, singing the song "Love" while wearing an ACT UP, "Silence = Death" button.

⭐ Johnson will forever and always be seen as a mother figure to countless LGBTQIA+ young people, offering protection and unconditional love to those who had been rejected by society.

There are so many LGBTQIA+ creators who were hidden, erased, or underappreciated during their time, and this #PrideMonth, we aim to help bring their names to the forefront of Pride conversations. Join us in celebrating lesser-known queer creators with our #LiveLoudLiveTrue campaign at the link in our bio.
