as a woman in a male-dominated space, we usually have to do more to stand out to be considered a “good dj” and not just another person “pressing buttons.” 🥴

i really used to be terrifieddd of the mic because besides the music, that’s the only other thing “driving” the party. it wasn’t until hosts/emcees would try to dictate what song i played next so they could hype how they wanted, or told me to run a song back when i had another transition lined up, cutting the volume in and out of the current song to say whatever they wanted and completely messing up my vibe and set, that i decided i was done being scared to do it myself. 😅

i believe a dj and host relationship is built over time, and unless you’re with the same team every single set, to avoid stepping on toes, you’ve gotta get comfortable on the mic. i highly doubt i’m the only one who’s had an emcee blow your vibe mid-set. lol
