YUNGBLUD, BLUDFEST 2025

REVIEW: “My fucking club. My fucking family,”
YUNGBLUD declares these words with immense pride, looking out at the 30,000-strong assembly before him. He’s absolutely bang on, too, because all of this is his. He built it from the ground up. And with every passing year, the Black Hearts Club grows, an eclectic measure of the mark that Dom Harrison continues to leave on the British music scene.
Yet compared to the statements that he has conjured in the past, there’s something extra special circulating tonight. It can be felt in how ‘Hello Heaven, Hello,’ sends shivers coursing up the spine, and sensed in the rambunctious carnage of ‘Lovesick Lullaby,’ which has every pair of feet in this field off the ground. This is the most realised version of YUNGBLUD there's ever been.
And he's a fucking rockstar.
Much of that assurance comes fresh off the release of ‘Idols’, a record that feels like Dom turning his back on those who have inspired him as much as embracing them. Those heroes can still be felt - the cocksure strut of Jagger, the timeless aura of Bowie, the immutable stance of Gallagher. But rest assured, this show is YUNGBLUD through and through.
The snotty pop-punk of ‘parents’, rallying indie of ‘Loner’, the cutesy bubblegum of ‘cotton candy’; a vibrant spectrum of creativity intensified by a comfort and confidence in his varied artistry, delivered with an undeniable energy.
Two tracks symbolise the passing of the baton better than any others, though. First is a thrilling cover of ‘White Wedding’ performed alongside the legendary Billy Idol. The second is the closing gambit of new tearjerker ‘Zombie’, a song that has put this magnificent world in front of a whole new set of eyes.
Both feel like watershed moments, cementing the phenomenon that is YUNGBLUD, while also kicking down the door to a whole new world of possibilities.
And to do all of that at your own festival? The stuff of superstars.
