World No. 164 Markéta Vondroušová stunned Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-4 in the Berlin Open on Saturday to reach her first final since she won Wimbledon in 2023.

Sabalenka had survived four match points against Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals on Friday, but could not repeat the escape act against Vondroušová, giving the Czech her first ever win over a reigning world No. 1.

Vondroušová, who has missed three months of this season with a shoulder issue, will face Wang Xinyu in the final on Sunday after the Chinese qualifier beat Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-1.
