On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas. #Juneteenth commemorates this milestone in our nation’s history—a time to reflect on the ongoing journey toward equality and honor Black Americans’ resilience and contributions. 

In observance of Juneteenth, City offices are closed today, Thursday, June 19.
