🌿 This year, the UO's Sustainable City Year Program celebrates its 15th anniversary! 🌿 Since 2010, scyp_uo has given students hands-on experience that prepares them for the workforce, while simultaneously helping Oregon communities solve complex issues.

Double Duck Rick Zylstra, BA ’15, MCRP ’22, is a great example of the program's success. When he stepped onto campus as a first-generation, nontraditional student who had dropped out of high school, he wasn’t sure what the future held. Then he found SCYP, where he found his footing. Today, he’s the community development director for the City of Oakridge—and now helps mentor current SCYP students as a partner in the program that once shaped his own future. 🛠️🌲

One of those students is Georgia Manning, class of 2027, an architecture major who joined SCYP not knowing exactly what to expect. She soon found herself designing middle housing plans for Oakridge, and presenting those ideas to local residents.

From the classroom to local governments across the state, SCYP connects students, alumni, and communities through real challenges and real solutions. 💚
