❌ STOP asking the children, “What do we need to find?”⁠

Why?

Because they’ve become programmed to respond with, “SPACE!” without thinking.⁠
⁠
It’s almost a routine answer now - like saying “yes” when you hear your name.⁠
⁠
Instead, try asking them this: “What can you do to be ready to receive?”⁠
⁠
It forces them to think. ⁠
⁠
This simple question encourages them to question themselves and can help them piece together a mental checklist of all of the things that they need to do in order to be ready to receive the ball! ⁠
⁠
- Have I found space?⁠
- Am I on the half-turn?⁠
- Are my arms up to feel for the defender?⁠
- Am I on my toes, ready to move?⁠
- Have I called for the ball?⁠
⁠
So, in your next session, ditch the default “What do we need to find?” And instead, challenge them to think in a new way. ⁠
