By 2030, the wnba will have 18 teams after the league announced expansion teams in Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia. The Cleveland team will start playing in 2028, Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030.

"The demand for women’s basketball has never been higher," WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said this morning. "We are excited for what these cities will bring to the league – and are confident that these new teams will reshape the landscape of women’s basketball."
