GraduATEd 🎓;)

About 7 months ago, I got a phone call from Cynthia Mumbo (iamcmumbo). I found it funny, unprofessionally asking, “You good?” and instantly felt so embarrassed when she calmly asked, “Can I speak to Gloria?” Maybe she thought I had an assistant or a little sibling picking up my phone hahaha.

Cynthia is such a respected figure in the sports industry. Hearing from her was both shocking and surreal. I couldn’t believe she even knew I existed, let alone had my number. That call changed everything.

She told me I had been recommended to apply for the first She Drives Sports leadership cohort. I doubted myself. I was 18 and the program was for women sports leaders aged 24-35. I procrastinated and self sabotaged until Cynthia called again a week before the deadline. That follow up finally pushed me to apply.

Those 7 months flew by. From reconnecting with familiar faces to meeting role models like Esse Akida (esseakida) and from strangers to besties with people like Damima (amimaddamima). This journey has been beyond what I could have imagine.

Thank you Cynthia, Dorcas (dorcasamakobe), Wanjiku (wanjikumwenda) and Boke (boke.biteng) for making this vision a reality. I’m so grateful for your guidance, trust, and for believing in me. Cynthia was right, “I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.”
