I went to Rio Carnival with a group in 2024 and it was MAGICAL 💃🏽🇧🇷❤️🥭🌊 I’m sooo happy and excited for you!

💃🏽 WHERE IS THE CARNIVAL IN RIO?
EVERYWHEREEE
↳ The big samba parade is in the Sambadrome, in Santa Teresa
↳ but the celebration of Carnival is *everywhere* almost all the time (especially the first week)
 ↳ you’ll run into unofficial Carnival parties “blocos” randomly on the streets too - just go with it 😎

🙋🏽‍♀️ DID I FEEL SAFE?
↳ *controversial opinion/generalization for tourists* as a Black/POC tourist from the U.S., I didn’t find the main areas of Rio as intimidating as many people hyped it up to be. I’ve been to more dangerous places, for sure

🧍🏽‍♀️WOULD I GO SOLO?
↳ Not because of safety but because Carnival is better in a group of friends 1000%!
↳ luckily everyone is friendly at carnival! Join Facebook groups, and then they look for WhatsApp groups to join for on the ground meet ups and Blocco friends!

💸 MONEY THINGS
How much does a Carnival trip cost?
↳ I went with intrepidtravel 🫶🏽 Their group trips are a great value, $3454 for 7 days of hotels, 2+ meals a day, activities, local transport, local guide, airport transfer etc etc

Here are some standard tourist expenses to budget for if you want to see Rio Carnival:
↳ Carnival performance tickets: $20-$400 USD depending how boujee you are!
↳ Hotel rooms: ~$200 USD/night
↳ Uber rides: ~$2 USD
↳ Caiparinhas: ~$4 USD
↳ Metro ride: ~$1 USD
↳ Bikini sets: ~$20 USD
↳ Lunch: ~$15USD
