not all dairy free butters are created equal 🧈 especially when you bake with them!

After many years of inconsistent baking results likely due to the butter I was using, I knew they didn’t perform the same. But I wanted to put it to the test once and for all.

So I tested 9 popular vegan butter brands and alternatives in cookie and cupcakes, using the same recipe and exact same gram measurements for all ingredients.

🏆 Top Picks: Violife & Trader Joe’s sticks - chewy edges, gooey centers and golden bottoms

🔎 Why they work: These vegan butters have an oil content of 79% which help them behave closer to dairy. 

❄️Texture When Cold: Both of these brands are very cold and firm straight from the fridge, which helps pastry and pie crust become flaky and buttercream hold its shape. It also means softened butter in cookie dough performs closer to softened dairy butter.

🧈Flavor and color: both of these had the best buttery taste and a realistic color which helped the cookies get a nice golden color when baked.
