Colorful pants are hard to wear. spr.ezza is not wrong.

But there are ways to wear them.

I'm not going to give you such played out nonsense as "wear them with neutrals" or "complimentary colors."

Rather, you need to understand cultural context. And the core example here is one that doesn't try to make them work, but rather leans into how garish they are.

"Go to hell." The pants that work *because* they attract negative attention. The pants that exude the privilege of being so rich that none of the other rich people can ever tell you you look bad. The true #oldmoneyaesthetic.

Some stories say that the *true* "go to hell pant is a certain shade of green critter pant, but in practice, it's most preppy pants that are too colorful for any person with conventionally " good taste" to consider. Chinos, corduroys. Madras. Go watch Pete Campbell's ugliest outfits in Mad Men.

I saw one argument that they came up because men were repressed during the work week. A gray or navy suit every day got old, so their golf clothes and the clothes they wore to summer in Nantucket had to be *extra* colorful to compensate.

Speaking of Nantucket... Hopefully you know about Nantucket Reds, but the specific old money shade of faded red "must" be purchased from Murray's Toggery Shop (ackreds). Get anything else, and old money families will know. And they will judge.
