🦌 BREAKING NEWS: New population of Huemul Deer has been discovered — one of the most threatened large mammals of the Americas! 🇨🇱 At the very tip of South America in the wild terrain of Cape Froward, this new subpopulation offers a glimmer of hope for a species that has lost 99% of its range. 

An expedition crew with rewildingchile, an offspring organization of tompkins_conservation and Re:wild partner, discovered this population in what will become Cape Forward National Park. With fewer than 1,500 Huemul Deer in Argentina and Chile, this news reinforces Cape Froward’s potential as a stronghold for biodiversity, protecting intact ecosystems for wildlife to thrive.
