We gotta talk about podcast branding 👇

The creator economy has absolutely exploded the last 5 years, and podcasting is no exception.

Although they exist in platforms alongside music, podcasts have rarely been given the same intentional creative treatment as an album. Due to the DIY nature of a LOT of podcasts on the market, that makes sense.

But as production value explodes and ad dollars pour in, we still haven’t seen a shift toward artistic creative… until recently.

This DIY-style of podcast branding is starting to shift - and that’s what I want to talk about.

In a world where titles are long and platforms already tell you what the show is, it just makes sense to create a cover that art-forward.

And these covers honestly function like book or album covers - they set the expectation for the kind of experience listeners will have. They give the podcast a visual brand that is then utilized on social and web - something that’s been largely overlooked for a while.

Some frontrunners in the pod branding space have produced some gorgeous creative - namely thegoldvan for First Look Media’s Finding Richard Simmons and hoodzpahdesign for Sophia Bush’s Work In Progress.

Podcasting’s DIY roots and minimal consolidation mean there’s still space for creative, standout covers and branding.

However, with platforms like Spotify producing more and more original content, it begs the question - Will increased budgets make podcast art bolder—or more boring?

What do you think?
