Masking is how you get really creative shots and will also add emphasis to your imagery. You can create slight adjustments to aid to the scene or make harsh/more emphasis to the image to showcase how important a certain part of the image is.

I mostly use the linear gradient at the bottom of the image and darken this area to bring your eye 👁️ to the center of the image. Another tip is if you are shooting when the sun ☀️ is out or if there is a bright light source, experiment with the circular gradient where the light is coming from and raise the exposure or highlights. This can bring more “ life” to your image.

Here are a few more masking tips:

- Radial Gradients: Ideal for creating natural, soft light transitions—perfect for highlighting specific areas like the sky or key focal points.
- Dodging and Burning: Enhances contrast in key areas, helping important elements stand out without overpowering the scene.
- Layered Masks: Combine techniques for maximum control. In this image, I used linear gradients, radial gradients, and brushes to build out the final look.
