A suburban community pool closed early over the Fourth of July weekend after unruly behavior erupted when a large crowd swarmed the area, police said.⁠

Glen Ellyn police estimated between 200 and 300 people arrived at the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Sunset Pool along Fairview Avenue near Main Street Saturday. Some of those in attendance were seen entering without paying, smoking cannabis and consuming alcohol in violation of park district ordinances, police said. One person was charged for the illegal use of fireworks.⁠

The park district decided to close the pool early that day, because of the illegal behavior of several people in attendance, according to authorities.⁠
