Eyewitnesses stated the attack occurred in an Israeli-designated "safe" area where people were queuing for nutritional supplements due to malnutrition caused by Israeli aid restrictions. ⁣

OHCHR claims nearly 800 deaths have occurred in Gaza's aid distribution areas since July 7, mostly near sites operated by the U.S.and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which took control of aid distribution on May 27.⁣

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has issued a statement rejecting the claims, calling the statistics “false and misleading”, and attributing them to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry.⁣

In the statement, GHF accused the UN of “relying on and coordinating with a terrorist organization” in a way that “falsely smears” the foundation’s efforts. It described this as “disturbing” and called for an international investigation into the matter.⁣

The foundation further claimed that the deadliest attacks on aid sites have been linked to UN convoys, referencing reports that 40 people were killed last week while trying to reach UN aid trucks.⁣
