🌊 July 15 is Arctic Sea Ice Day ❄️ A global reminder of the critical role sea ice plays in regulating our planet’s climate. And did you know the melting of Arctic sea ice impacts more species than just polar bears? 

Interestingly, climate change appears to be affecting Eastern and Western Africa in different ways. In East Africa, there is an increase in precipitation, while West Africa is experiencing a decrease.  Rising temperatures and droughts driven by climate change are causing significant challenges for species that depend on high-moisture environments to thrive. 

Shifts in rainfall patterns are significantly impacting the tropical rainforests that Western lowland gorillas call home. Prolonged droughts, unpredictable floods, and rising temperatures are disrupting the delicate balance of these dense forest ecosystems these gorillas rely on for survival. Changes in rainfall also interfere with the timing of fruiting of trees and plants, including species vital to the gorilla diet. As some plant species struggle to survive, the diversity of food sources decreases, potentially leading to food shortages for the gorillas.
