What really separates a cosmetic chemist from a product developer? Are the terms interchangeable? The answer is: they are absolutely NOT, and @Ron Chemist, a veteran cosmetic chemist in beauty for three decades, also cosmetic chemist of @rhode skin and founder of @beautystat, helped me break it down while we were visiting his lab! 🥼🧪A cosmetic chemist is in the lab formulating. They work with raw materials and create the actual base of the product. A product developer, on the other hand? Typically product developers and product development teams bridge between a brand or manufacturer's vision and the final product. Product developers typically guide everything from concept to testing to launch. Some product developers work closely with chemists, and depending on how closely they work with chemists they also have lab experience. I.e. a product developer coming into the lab to do shade development or check a formula base presented by a chemist. But our roles are not the same, and there are many people and teams involved behind the scenes to bring a product to life. Depending on the organization, sometimes product developers that could live under Research and Development (R&D), and in those cases the roles are merged. This is just a quick example but it does get nuanced. But in summary, think of it like this, the chemist creates the paint, and the developer paints the picture, hence the development. I truly personally see product development as an art form that brings the soul and intention to the formulas our cosmetic chemist partners create! It's a beautiful collaboration! Thanks Ron for letting us visit you in the lab ❤️✨Drop any industry questions you've been curious about in the comments beauty queens! #thelipsticklesbians #makeupreview #BeautyTok #cosmeticchemistry #productdevelopment #beautyindustry
