Coheed and Cambria, 2000trees Festival

REVIEW: Nearly 25 years in, and it feels like Coheed and Cambria have never been hungrier than they are right now. 
This is their second time headlining a festival in the UK, and you can see just how grateful they are to be trusted with such a task from the moment they step out into the early evening sun. 
But that gratitude is even more prominent in their performance, a powerful and passionate masterclass in how to capture and captivate an audience.
There’s plenty of fresh additions to the pot with the recent release of ‘Vaxis – Act III: The Father Of Make Believe’ playing a huge part, ‘Someone Who Can’ and ‘Goodbye, Sunshine’ in particular sending shivers coursing up the spine, whilst the cutthroat ‘Shoulders’ and progressive jubilance of ‘Domino The Destitute’ hammer home how deep the genius runs throughout the band's sensational discography.
And that’s all before ‘In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3’ takes the extravagance up a notch, still a truly audacious feat in dramatic storytelling through song, and ‘Blood Red Summer’ and ‘A Favor House Atlantic’ have vocal cords being stretched from the front to the back.
By the time the double-neck Gibson SG comes out for an apocalyptically thrilling ‘Welcome Home’, the band’s victory is well and truly sealed. A technical and tenacious display, the sort that affirms why this scene and this community we all adore so feverishly is so remarkable. 
Here's to the next 25 years.
