Two years after a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis, Alfonzo Grafton sits down in his home with his Duke oncologist, Dr. Eziafa Oduah, to reflect on the clinical trial that changed his life. Alfonzo was the first patient to receive an experimental medication targeting the PCSK9 protein—part of an NIH-funded study at the Duke Cancer Institute. Alfonzo shares how the trial gave him his life back, from dancing to cheering on Duke basketball in his beloved “Duke Room" to spending time with family and friends.
