There are heatwaves all across Europe, with temperatures reaching as high as 46 degrees.

So, will travel insurance cover you if you want to change or cancel your trip?

⚠️ If you cancel a trip when no government warning is in place advising against travel - it’s unlikely your travel insurance will cover it.

❌ There are currently no warnings for France, Spain, Portugal or Italy and when the Foreign Office has issued warnings in the past, they haven’t issued “do not travel” advice.

🏥 If you receive a doctor’s note advising you not to travel due to a preexisting medical condition and extreme weather, you may be entitled to compensation but you will have had to declare this to the insurer before booking your travel insurance.

⛈️ If your trip is cancelled by the airline due to weather-related events, you may be offered either compensation or a replacement trip.

✅ It’s really important to check your travel insurance policy for a list of covered reasons for trip cancellation, as these usually vary by provider.

🥵 If you’re visiting an area affected by a heatwave, it’s important to stay informed about local weather conditions and follow safety guidelines.

💧 Things like drinking plenty of water and avoiding exercise around the hottest part of the day can make a big difference.
