The Fourth of July is one of the busiest days of the year for our emergency room (ER) and urgent care centers. Knowing where to go for treatment is essential, whether you've been injured by fireworks or food. Here's a quick guide to help you decide:

🤢 Feeling unwell and experiencing vomiting? → Go to Urgent Care
😲 Serious injury from a firework? → Go to the ER
🤬 Tripped over a lawn chair and twisted your ankle? → Go to Urgent Care
🤕 Tripped over a lawn chair, fell, hit your head and lost consciousness? → Go to the ER
🤔 Developed a questionable rash after sitting in the grass? → Go to Urgent Care
😵 Drank too much alcohol? → Go to the ER

"Every year, we see an increase in accidents related to the Fourth of July that could be avoided," said Shayla McDonald, nurse manager at UF Health Flagler Hospital's emergency room. "Please remember that alcohol should be avoided by those handling fireworks. We also recommend watching your children closely around all fireworks, including sparklers."

We're here for those "that kinda hurts" moments. However, if you're experiencing chest pain, difficulty breathing, heavy bleeding or any other life-threatening conditions, call 911 or go straight to the emergency room.
