IF ALL I DO WITH MY HITTING COACH DURING PRACTICE IS TRY TO “PRODUCE A CERTAIN MOVE” WITH MY BODY AND WORK ON THE “MECHANICS” OF MY SWING, AM I ACTUALLY PRACTICING HITTING OR AM I JUST PRACTICING SWINGING🤔 I think a lot of coaches don’t take into consideration how much more brainpower is utilized and how much more physically tiring it is for a player to force their bodies to move a certain way for an hour at a time🤷🏼‍♂️It’s really easy to tell though, all you have to do is pay closer attention to the hitters facial expressions when you’re asking them to “separate their hips”, or “coil their body”, or “retract their scapula”, etc… guaranteed they’ll become hyper focused on these internal cues and if they can’t “get it right” based on what the coach is looking for, it eventually turns into frustration😖 Then stop doing that and simply put them in a game situation and ask them to perform a task using their own imagination and watch the difference in facial expressions😁Guaranteed they begin to smile and feel some joy and freedom… unlike when they are trying to force deliberate moves over and over🫠 Am I suggesting to not work on mechanics and just do situational hitting? No. But I am certain that smiling and enjoying your practice is a major key to getting better at baseball⚾️ Here’s an example of what it looks like from Georgia Tech 🐝 Freshman alex.hernandez.0720 (aka “TYLER HERRO”⛹️). Alex is a super athletic 6’2”/200lbs Utility player that was recruited as a two way player out of HS.
