It’s been well documented that ‘food is fashion’ right now, with luxury brands adding hospitality spaces and experiences to their list of revenue streams. (We can feel the eye roll of chefs from here)

But just as luxury brands are branching into hospitaliy to combat economic downturns, how are hospitality spaces looking beyond the menu to combat the rising costs that they are navigating?

Some are building brands and branching out in creative ways, like selling products, creative collabs and focusing on content to reach wider audiences.

@yardsalepizza (a SALT office lunch favourite) has built a cult community around London. Aside from branded merch, which is mostly sold out, & limited-time only pizzas (like the upcoming YSP x @bighas___ pizza), they have centralised their delivery service and partnered with selected venues and pubs, so that discerning diners can order a Yard Sale Pizza to be delivered while enjoying a pint. Chef’s kiss.

In our minds, hearts and mouths, @bao_london lives rent-free. They consistently give a branding masterclass, marrying creative direction, art direction, branding and food together with creative activations, content and strategic collaborations.

Then take @fallowrestaurant which – aside from its many, many culinary successes – has diversified itself with an online shop and content, boasting over 1.2M subscribers on their Fallow YouTube channel. Sharing creative culinary content, the founders, Jack and Will, videos can get millions of views on the platform alone.

And finally, the much-talked-about @nomacph is much talked about for good reason: it has built a creative culinary empire that’s moved beyond the tables of their restaurant and into different creative branches.

In 2022, they started @nomaprojects an R&D kitchen which features a fermentation lab, which produces and sells products. They also have a ‘Taste Buds’ members club for exclusive access, Noma Kaffe, recipe books, events, activations and even an Apple TV Series: Omnivore.
