Aurora Borealis captured this past weekend in Iceland at the Gulfoss waterfall - the largest volume waterfall in Europe! If you’ve dreamed of seeing the Aurora now is the time to get out there as the sun is at its maximum activity during its 11 year cycle. Lately there have been frequent eruptions on the Sun (called CME’s) that send a large magnetic cloud of protons and electrons towards the earth, and when they interact with our magnetic field it forces electrons into the atmosphere…releases this brilliant display of colored lights. On this particular night it was O Celsius and the wind was ripping at 20-30 mph, but totally worth it! Do you see the Pleiades starsystem here in the sky? Captured using an astro-modified camera in 14 bit HDR, part of a soon to be released film on Icelandic auroras.
