Black History Month is an annual celebration starting back in 1926 and continues to be celebrated. Black History Month is a time to reflect, celebrate, and educate others on the struggles and honor African Americans for everything they have accomplished in previous years.

As an organization and individuals, Uprising Magazine believes it is important to value and represent Black History Month as well as educate ourselves and our members about African American history and culture. Uprising Magazine is hoping to support and spread awareness to our community for African American history and culture in all the ways we can

How can you support or celebrate Black History Month?
-Visit and support black owned businesses and restaurants
-Attend black history month events
-Read books or watch movies by African American creators

There are many resources and ways to get involved as students of color and as allies at UNI. The Center for Multicultural Education (@uni_cme) provides educational and professional resources to students of all walks of life. The Black Student Union (@unibsu) is a student organization for black students, run by black students to celebrate their community and share their culture with the student body. Check out their page to see what upcoming events they have planned!
