“I’ve filmed sharks all over the world, but these encounters were something else entirely.

We hovered motionless on the shallow reef, watching as the sharks swam slowly glided past. Sometimes they came just a few meters away, making no sudden movements and showing no signs of stress. Malapascua, Philippines, is one of the only places in the world where divers can observe thresher sharks up close, without disturbing them.

Thresher sharks typically spend their time at depths of 300 to 500 meters, far beyond recreational dive limits. But here, they rise to just 5 meters at dawn to visit a cleaning station, where small fish remove parasites from their skin and gills.”
