🗣️ Community & Conversation
We kicked off the year with a powerful staged reading of Ain’t No Mo’ on #MLK Day and Apollo Uptown Hall: A Burning House in collaboration with wnyc, diving deep into truth and change. 

🎭 Theater
We partnered with natblacktheatre and kiprepublic for “King Comes Home”, and made our utrfest debut with “Loss” by Trinidadian playwright iankamau. Apollo New Works brought bold readings and performances  like martharedbone’s “Guardian Spirit” inspired by bell hooks, and “Jeffrey Manor” by tonyapinkins. 

🎶 Music
#ApolloMusicCafe brought the vibes with callmesahn, endeatheebassbae, orangejuliusmusic, fredyonnet  and sister-duo theamours. saadiqmoves gave us a one-man, one-night, no-bandwidth moment, and thejasonmoran honored Duke Ellington’s 125-year legacy alongside gordonparksfoundation photography. We threw down at Club Quarantine 5 with dnice & friends, and #LyricistLounge brought the heat with legendary bars from ghostfacekillah, officialcappadonna, and ins_tagrams. 

🎙️ Comedy
The laughs were loud with every set from a talented lineup of up-and-coming comedians at #ApolloComedyClub, and the original Bad Girl of Comedy luenell made her triumphant return to our stage.

🎥  Film
We celebrated Black love with a screening of #Claudine, honored James Baldwin’s 100th with Horace Ové’s Baldwin’s Ni**er and a stunning reimagining of Baldwin’s words by samorapinderhughes. 

✨ Legacy
We marked 91 years of Apollo history, welcomed Amateur Night Japan winners to Harlem, and gave love to the iconic Urban Bush Women with a visual exhibition for their 40th. And to close the season— therealdionnew returns home, 60 years later. ❤️
