apolloedharlem’s transformative workshops and residencies give students the tools to learn more about themselves and their communities.

A Journey Through Song: Lyrics Across Time Workshop: Students will compare music from specific eras (ex. the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s), focusing on how lyrics embody the social and political climates of the historical period. By learning to write their own song lyrics, students will reflect on the cultural dynamics of their own lived experiences.

Oral History Program Residency: Designed to develop students’ creative skills in the arts and communication, community and intergenerational relationships, artistic expression and understanding local history. We engage students with activities that teach them to collect oral history interviews, curate the content, and create art projects from the content.
