Ahead of Father’s Day weekend—and my birthday—I want to share a few words and a few quotes I’ve heard recently:

“I wish I was up there.”
“In this time we’re living in… Black men who want to be present, being seen, getting a moment.”
“Thank you for taking the time to do the work.”

Over the past two weeks, I’ve found myself walking through Port Authority—sometimes to fix a sign I printed the wrong size, other times just to take it all in.

This opportunity came to me through Mr. Myron Johnson. We were originally talking about headshots late last year, and this exhibit wasn’t even on my radar. The way it all came together still feels surreal, and I’ll share more on that story soon. But what stood out was realizing we’d been connected long before that conversation.

As an artist, I had no idea what this project would look like when it finally came to life—or if it even would. I’ve held so many versions of Black Dads Love in my head over the years, even before becoming a father myself.

Not knowing my biological father, I understand deeply what that absence can do to a child’s psyche. But I was also blessed with father figures throughout my life—so I’ve always known how powerful presence is.

Now, I see it every day: how the love I give my daughter gets recycled and poured right back into me.

This birthday is special. Because for the first time, I’m stepping back and watching Harper take the lead—guiding me through something I’ve built from the ground up. Watching her feel proud, even without fully grasping the impact of it all, makes this exhibit, this Father’s Day, and this moment in time incredibly meaningful.

There have been a lot of recent wins, and more on the horizon. But what I’ll hold onto the most are the quiet in-between moments:
The strangers who shared their truths…
The times I started to open up too…
The conversations that felt divinely timed…
The moments I wish I could freeze, just long enough to grab my camera.

Those are the ones I cherish most
