Former Louisville police officer #BrettHankison was sentenced to 33 months (3 years) in prison for violating the late #BreonnaTaylor’s civil rights during the botched 2020 raid that led to her death, cnn reports. ___________________________________
Although Hankison’s bullets didn’t hit anyone, they flew into a neighboring apartment. The Justice Department initially asked for just one day behind bars and probation. In a memo, prosecutors said, “There is no need for a prison sentence to protect the public” and recommended “time served”— just a single day.

#Roomies, if you recall, three other former Louisville police officers have been charged with crafting a falsified warrant regarding the case but have not gone to trial. Also, 3 officers entered Taylor’s home when she was shot and killed.

The sentencing came after years of federal prosecution.
