The children of the late Rev. #DrMartinLutherKingJr released a lengthy statement calling out the Trump administration for releasing records of the FBI’s surveillance of MLK despite the family’s opposition.

According to cnn, the documents, sealed initially until 2027, were unsealed after the Justice Department pushed for release. King’s children, Martin Luther King III and Bernice King, were notified in advance and had teams reviewing the files. ___________________________________
In the statement from #BerniceKing and Martin Luther King Ill, they wrote, “The release of these files must be viewed within their full historical context. During our father’s lifetime, he was relentlessly targeted by an invasive, predatory, and deeply disturbing disinformation and surveillance campaign orchestrated by J. Edgar Hoover through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).”___________________________________
The release comes as #DonaldTrump faces heat over how his administration is handling records related to the #JeffreyEpstein investigation. Critics say this is yet another distraction tactic.
